Recent Work : After several years of working almost exclusively with B/W as a final image I have started to find a new interest in color as a way to add dimensionality to my pictures. Previously I usually found the amount of color information in a scene distracting and an obstacle to revealing something I perceived in the profusion of details.

Lake Placid : Some time in Lake Placid inspired me to work with color again.

East Rock : These pictures were done in a park near where I live. The challenge for me in returning again and again to the same place is to see beyond the hazy familiarity of repetition to fresh views that convey a sense of intimacy. I think of the project as an extended portrait of a particular place, and perhaps something more than a particular place.

South Yuba : These pictures are from an area in Northern California that I go to periodically. The location is rural and remote, and quite different from back east.

Other Places : I enjoy making pictures in places where the natural world is left to develop more or less on its own - to evolve into an unpredictable order, a kind of 'measured chaos'.

Place's Pond : This is an area in New Hampshire, named after an early resident Mr. Place, where my wife has family.

Surface of Time : Rock surfaces intrique me, inert but nontheless impermanent like everything else, with an almost imperceptible accretion and abrasion recording their enigmatic history.
